Chinese Drywall
Recently upon inspection of a resident's air conditioning unit, it was discovered that the coils were black which has been a common sign that Chinese drywall may have been used. The black is from something in the wallboard which causes a chemical reaction resulting in deterioration of copper pipes and wiring.
At least one piece of wallboard in the crawlspace was identified with "China" or "Chinese" printed on it.This notice is a reminder to owners that because our homes were built during the time period at issue they should check their homes for this problem. There are several law firms involved in representing owners throughout Florida. Google "chinese wallboard" for additional information.
Some pointers on what to look for: Sulfur gas smell, blackened copper plumbing pipes or wiring, tarnished fixtures, chrome, and jewelry, or damaged air conditioning system and appliances. It is suggested first calling an air conditioning company to inspect the system. Also, have someone remove electrical wallplates and look for copper wires that are black.
